Ahrefs Pricing: What Ahrefs Costs per Month, With Every Plan Compared
Ahrefs costs $29 a month on Starter, $129 on Lite, $249 on Standard, $449 on Advanced and $1,499 on Enterprise. Every plan below Enterprise includes exactly one user, and the two limits that decide whether you outgrow a tier are rarely on the price row: how many extra seats the plan will even let you buy, and how many AI prompts it tracks.

How much does Ahrefs cost?
Ahrefs costs $29 to $1,499 a month. The public ladder is Starter at $29, Lite at $129, Standard at $249, Advanced at $449 and Enterprise at $1,499. Ahrefs advertises up to 17 percent off for annual billing on the main tiers. Enterprise requires an annual commitment.
Most buyers land on Lite at $129 and assume that is the bill. It usually is not, for two reasons that sit below the price row. First, every plan under Enterprise ships with one user, and each tier caps how many extra seats you can add at all: Lite allows two more at $40 each, Standard five more at $60 each, Advanced ten more at $80 each. A team of four cannot run on Lite at any price, because three users is the ceiling. That is an upgrade trigger disguised as a seat fee.
Second, if you are buying Ahrefs in 2026 to see whether ChatGPT and Google's AI Overviews mention you, look at the AI prompt row before the price row. Lite tracks five prompts. Standard tracks ten. Advanced tracks twenty. Larger prompt packs are a separate add-on that Ahrefs prices from $50 to $250 a month, and Brand Radar, the standalone AI visibility product, starts at $199 on top of your subscription. Five prompts is a spot check, not a monitoring program.
The $29 Starter plan is the most misread tier on the page. It is not a small version of Lite. It is credit metered: 200 report credits a month, one credit per report you load or filter in Site Explorer, Keywords Explorer and Content Explorer, plus 5,000 crawl credits per verified project. On Starter you cannot buy extra users, extra credits or any add-on, and it renews monthly only. It is a real plan for a solo operator doing occasional research, and a trap for anyone who works in the tool daily.
Worth separating clearly: what you are buying from Ahrefs is a research index. If your bottleneck is that pages are not getting written and published, that is a different purchase, and we cover the whole market on our SEO software price comparison.
Ahrefs plans compared: price, seats and limits (August 2026)
Read the users column and the AI prompts column before the price column. Those two decide whether a plan survives contact with a real team. The seat number in parentheses is the maximum you can add, not just the price per seat.

Figures read from ahrefs.com/pricing and the Ahrefs help center on 29 August 2026. Starter is credit metered at 200 report credits a month and does not appear in the same feature matrix as the four main tiers, so we leave its keyword limit blank rather than guess. Ahrefs does not publish per-tier annual dollar figures, only the up to 17 percent saving, so we do not quote annual prices.
What actually moves your Ahrefs bill
Five variables explain nearly every gap between the sticker price and the invoice.
Seat caps, not just seat prices
The number most comparisons miss. Lite is not simply expensive for a team, it is unavailable to one: you can add two seats and no more, so three people is a hard ceiling. A fourth hire forces a jump from $129 to $249 before you have used a single extra feature. Count your seats first, then pick the tier.
Credits on Starter, crawl credits everywhere else
Starter gives you 200 report credits a month and one is spent every time you load or filter a report. That is roughly seven reports a day before you are rationing. Because Starter cannot buy top-ups, running out means waiting for the reset or upgrading to $129.
AI prompt tracking sits low on every tier
Five prompts on Lite, ten on Standard, twenty on Advanced. If AI visibility is the reason you are buying in 2026, price the add-on packs at $50 to $250 a month or Brand Radar from $199 into your budget from day one, because the base allowance will not cover a real keyword set.
The API is an Enterprise feature
Uncapped API access is listed at the Enterprise tier. If a workflow, dashboard or internal tool depends on pulling Ahrefs data programmatically, that is a $1,499 a month conversation with an annual commitment, not a $129 one.
Annual billing, with one exception
Ahrefs advertises up to 17 percent off annually on the main tiers, and Enterprise is annual only. Starter is the exception: it renews monthly only, so there is no annual discount to capture at the bottom of the ladder.
How to pick an Ahrefs plan without overbuying
Four steps that turn the pricing page into one number you can defend.
Count the people who need to log in
Do this before you look at features. One or two people can use Lite. Three is the absolute maximum Lite allows. Four or more means Standard at $249 plus $60 a seat, and that single question often decides the tier on its own.
Count the keywords you will genuinely watch weekly
Not the ones you would like to see. 750 tracked keywords on Lite is plenty for one site and tight across three. If you are between tiers here, trim the tracking list rather than paying $120 more a month for keywords nobody reads.
Decide whether AI visibility is a real requirement
If it is, the base allowance of five or ten prompts will not do the job. Price the prompt add-on or Brand Radar from $199 now. If it is not a requirement yet, ignore the AI row entirely and buy on index quality, which is the part of Ahrefs that is genuinely hard to replace.
Separate research spend from production spend
Ahrefs tells you what to write. It does not write or publish anything. If your backlog is a research gap, buy the tier above. If your backlog is that nobody has time to write the pages, more research data will not clear it, and the money belongs in production instead.
Which Ahrefs plan fits which buyer
Solo SEO or founder doing occasional research
Starter at $29, and go in knowing it is 200 credits a month with no top-ups. If you find yourself checking the credit counter, you have outgrown it and the next stop is $129. There is no tier between them.
One or two people running a handful of sites
Lite at $129 is the natural home: 750 keywords, 5 projects, 100,000 crawl credits. Add the second seat at $40 if you need it. Just remember the third seat is the last one this plan will sell you.
In-house team of four or more
Standard at $249 is effectively the entry tier for you, because Lite's seat cap rules it out. Budget $249 plus $60 for each person beyond the first. Five users lands at $489 a month, which is worth modeling before you commit.
Agency running many client projects
Advanced at $449 for 50 projects and 5,000 tracked keywords, or Standard at $249 if 20 projects covers your roster. Seats are $80 on Advanced, so a team of six is $849 a month. Compare that against per-client pricing models before you assume the suite is cheaper.
Anyone who needs API access
Uncapped API access is an Enterprise line item at $1,499 a month on an annual commitment. If the API is a hard requirement, start the budget conversation there rather than hoping to bolt it onto a lower tier.
Teams whose real problem is publishing volume
If the research is already done and the articles are not getting written, no Ahrefs tier fixes that. This is the case where a production tool earns its keep and a bigger research subscription does not.
Ahrefs and Rankable solve different halves of the problem
An honest split rather than a pitch. Ahrefs is a research index and we do not compete with it on that. Plenty of teams should own both, and if you only have budget for one, this table should tell you which.
| What you are buying | Rankable | Ahrefs |
|---|---|---|
| Entry price | $49 a month, one plan, no per-seat charge | $29 credit metered, or $129 for the first full tier |
| Users included | No per-seat pricing | One, with a hard cap on extra seats per tier |
| Backlink and keyword index | No. We do not run a backlink index and do not claim one. | Yes, and it is the main thing you are paying for |
| Rank tracking | No. Rankable has no rank tracker. | Yes, metered by tracked keyword |
| Site auditing and crawling | Limited to the content and internal linking layer | Yes, up to 1.5 million crawl credits on Advanced |
| Writes the articles | Yes, researched and written on a schedule | No. Ahrefs tells you what to write, not writes it |
| Publishes the articles | Yes. Our team wires up publishing during onboarding, then articles go live on the cadence you set. | No |
| API access | Not a self-service product | Uncapped at Enterprise, $1,499 a month |
| Best for | Teams whose bottleneck is pages not getting published | Teams whose bottleneck is knowing what to target |
Ahrefs pricing questions
How much does Ahrefs cost?
Ahrefs costs $29 a month for Starter, $129 for Lite, $249 for Standard, $449 for Advanced and $1,499 for Enterprise. Ahrefs advertises up to 17 percent off for annual billing on the main tiers. Every plan below Enterprise includes one user, with extra seats charged at $40, $60 or $80 depending on the tier.
How much is Ahrefs per month?
The most commonly bought plan, Lite, is $129 a month and includes one user, 5 projects, 750 tracked keywords, 5 tracked AI prompts and 100,000 crawl credits. Adding the two extra seats Lite permits at $40 each brings a three person team to $209 a month.
Does Ahrefs have a free plan?
Ahrefs offers a free tier through Ahrefs Webmaster Tools, which gives you backlink and site audit data for sites you verify ownership of. It does not let you research competitors, which is the reason most people buy Ahrefs, so treat it as a site monitoring tool rather than a free version of the paid product.
Does Ahrefs have a free trial?
Ahrefs does not run a conventional free trial on its paid plans. The $29 Starter plan is the intended low risk way in, since it renews monthly only and can be cancelled after a single month. Ahrefs Webmaster Tools is the free option for your own site.
Which Ahrefs plan should I get?
Pick by headcount first. One or two people on a few sites should take Lite at $129. Four or more people must take Standard at $249, because Lite caps at three users total no matter what you pay. Agencies running more than 20 client projects need Advanced at $449.
Is Ahrefs Lite enough?
Lite is enough for one or two people running up to five projects and watching 750 keywords. It stops being enough at three specific moments: a fourth team member, a sixth project, or a serious AI visibility requirement, since Lite tracks only five AI prompts. Any one of those forces the jump to $249.
How much does the Ahrefs API cost?
Uncapped API access is listed as an Enterprise feature, and Enterprise is $1,499 a month with an annual commitment. Ahrefs does not publish a standalone API price on its main pricing page, so budget API work at the Enterprise tier rather than as an add-on to a cheaper plan. We break this down in our guide to Ahrefs API pricing.
Is Ahrefs cheaper billed annually?
Yes on the main tiers. Ahrefs advertises up to 17 percent off for annual billing on Lite, Standard and Advanced, and Enterprise is annual only. Starter is the exception: it renews monthly and has no annual option, so the cheapest plan is also the only one with no discount to capture.
Why is Ahrefs so expensive?
You are paying for a crawler and index rather than software. Ahrefs continuously crawls the web to keep backlink and keyword data current, which is an ongoing infrastructure cost that does not fall as customers are added. That is also why the pricing is metered by credits, keywords and projects rather than sold flat.
What is a cheaper alternative to Ahrefs?
It depends which job you are replacing. For backlink and keyword research there is no cheap substitute, because the index is the product. For content planning, writing and publishing, tools start around $49 a month. We compare the realistic options on our Ahrefs alternative page.
Buying research, or buying published pages?
If you already know what to write and the articles still are not going live, another research seat will not change that. Rankable researches, writes and publishes on a schedule from $49 a month.
