The best Surfer SEO plan for most small content teams is Standard at EUR 99 a month, and for most agencies it is Pro at EUR 182. The deciding factor is rarely document volume. It is seats and brand workspaces, because Standard gives you three logins and exactly one brand workspace, which means one client. Take on a second client and no amount of unused document quota keeps you on that tier.

The other thing worth knowing before you compare tiers is that Standard and Pro include the same number of documents. Both give you 360. Pro costs nearly twice as much and does not raise the number that most buyers assume they are paying for. You move up for seats, workspaces, daily AI prompt refresh and a handful of workflow features, never for volume. This guide works through the decision the way it actually presents itself.

Surfer SEO plans at a glance

All four self-serve tiers. Every price shown is the per month rate when you commit to a full year, and every price is in euros. Surfer publishes no dollar ladder.

PlanPer month, billed yearlyDocumentsTeam seatsBrand workspacesAI prompts tracked

StandardEUR 993603125, weekly refresh
ProEUR 1823605550, daily refresh
Peace of MindEUR 299Unlimited10Unlimited100, daily refresh

Pages tracked run 10, 50, 200 and 500 across the same four tiers. Enterprise is a custom quote starting at EUR 999 a month. A standalone AI Search Analytics subscription, covering 100 prompts a day across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google and Gemini, sells separately at EUR 158 a month.

Which Surfer plan is best for a solo SEO or freelancer?

Discovery at EUR 49 a month. It gives one seat, 120 documents to create or optimize, one brand workspace and 10 tracked pages. For a consultant working a single site that is a comfortable fit, and 120 documents a year is more than most solo operators get through. The two things it does not give you are AI prompt tracking, which is zero on this tier, and a second brand workspace, which is what stops it working the day you sign a second client.

Do not talk yourself into Standard on volume. If you publish four or five pieces a month, Discovery covers it with room left over. The upgrade trigger for a freelancer is almost always the second client, not the tenth article.

Which Surfer plan is best for a small in-house content team?

Standard at EUR 99 a month. Three seats covers a writer, an editor and whoever owns the calendar. The document allowance triples to 360, tracked pages go to 50, and you pick up the plagiarism checker and rank drop detection, which are the two features in-house teams tend to notice missing on Discovery. One brand workspace is not a limitation if you are in-house, because you only have one brand.

The constraint to watch on Standard is the AI prompt refresh. You get 25 prompts, refreshed weekly. That is enough to know whether you appear in AI answers at all. It is not enough to see whether a change you made last Thursday did anything, because the data only moves once a week. If answer engine visibility is a reporting line for your team rather than a curiosity, plan for Pro.

One thing rank drop detection does not do, on any tier: it tells you a page fell out of the top ten, not why. A surprising share of the time the cause is that the page spent two days returning a 502 or a timeout to Googlebot, which is why plenty of content teams pair their SEO stack with something that checks the URL every 30 seconds and pages someone the moment it stops answering. Ranking tools sample too slowly to catch an outage that short.

Which Surfer plan is best for an agency?

Pro at EUR 182 a month, and the reason is workspaces, not documents. Pro gives five brand workspaces against Standard's one, five seats against three, 200 tracked pages against 50, and daily AI prompt refresh with 50 prompts against 25 refreshed weekly. It also adds one-click internal linking and content gap analysis, both of which pay for themselves faster in an agency than in-house because you run the same play across several sites.

Look closely at the documents column though. Pro gives 360, exactly the same as Standard. An agency that assumes it is buying more content capacity by moving to Pro is buying multi-brand capacity instead. If your five clients between them need more than 360 optimized documents a year, Pro does not solve that and Peace of Mind, with unlimited documents, is the tier you actually want.

When is Peace of Mind worth EUR 299 a month?

Three situations make it worth it. First, when you have more than five people who need their own login, because ten seats is a hard jump from Pro's five. Second, when document volume is genuinely your ceiling, since this is the only tier that removes the cap. Third, when you need more than five brand workspaces, which for an agency usually means the sixth client.

The support difference is real but harder to price: Peace of Mind adds personalized onboarding and a dedicated success manager. If you are moving a team of eight onto a new tool in a quarter, that is worth something. If you are two people who already know the product, it is not.

How many seats do you get with each Surfer SEO plan?

One on Discovery, three on Standard, five on Pro and ten on Peace of Mind. Seats are the most common reason teams upgrade, ahead of every other limit on the pricing page. An agency with six people who each need their own login is on Peace of Mind at EUR 299 regardless of how little content it produces that month, which is the same shape of problem Ahrefs buyers hit with its seat caps. We worked through that one in Ahrefs plans compared.

Count logins first, then documents, then workspaces. Running the decision in that order gets most teams to the right tier in about two minutes, and it stops you from buying Pro for a document allowance that does not change.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Surfer SEO for content teams?

It depends what you are actually buying. If you want a SERP-driven editor that scores a draft against what already ranks, Surfer is the category leader and the cheaper optimizers are cheaper for a reason. Frase starts lower and includes an agent that publishes to several CMS platforms. NeuronWriter is cheaper still. We compare the field in Surfer SEO alternatives and put the whole category's prices side by side in the SEO software price comparison.

If what you are buying is more published pages, none of those tools are the answer, including Surfer. An optimizer improves a draft that already exists. The most common failure mode we see in small content teams is not that the drafts score badly, it is that the drafts never get finished and the calendar quietly slips a month. That is a throughput problem, and it is what Rankable is built for: research, drafting and scheduled publishing in one subscription, priced in US dollars from 49 a month, with publishing wired up by our team during onboarding.

Does Surfer SEO have a free plan or a free trial?

No. There is no permanent free plan, and Surfer's pricing page showed no free trial and no money-back guarantee when we read it on 31 August 2026. The lowest entry point is Discovery, which at EUR 49 a month billed yearly means committing roughly EUR 588 up front. Terms like trials are sometimes offered inside the checkout flow rather than on the pricing page, so check with Surfer directly rather than trusting a comparison article, including this one.

What does Surfer SEO cost per month if you do not pay yearly?

Surfer does not publish that number, but you can derive it. Next to each plan it advertises the annual saving: EUR 120 on Discovery, EUR 240 on Standard, EUR 444 on Pro and EUR 720 on Peace of Mind. Divide each by twelve and add it back to the advertised rate and you get roughly EUR 59, EUR 119, EUR 219 and EUR 359 a month. Those land on clean round numbers, which suggests the arithmetic is reading the model correctly rather than producing a rounding artefact, but they are derived figures and not something Surfer prints. Confirm at checkout.

For a US team there is a second cost hiding behind all of this. Surfer bills in euros with no dollar option, so the amount that hits the card moves with the exchange rate at every renewal, and many US business cards add a foreign transaction fee of around 3 percent. Budget a range rather than a line item. The full breakdown, including the currency question, is on our Surfer SEO pricing page.

The short version

One person on one site: Discovery, EUR 49. A small in-house team on one brand: Standard, EUR 99. An agency running two to five client brands: Pro, EUR 182. More than five people, more than five brands, or genuinely uncapped volume: Peace of Mind, EUR 299. Everything above ten seats is an Enterprise conversation starting at EUR 999.

Whatever you pick, price the yearly commitment honestly. Every headline number on Surfer's pricing page assumes twelve months paid up front in a currency that is not yours, and that is a bigger difference between tiers than most of the feature rows.
